The Surrey Dispensary Fund exists to assist in the relief of sickness in the former Metropolitan Boroughs of Southwark and Bermondsey.

The Surrey Dispensary was first established in the 18th Century. The Fund may be used for charitable purposes. The Fund is not able to assist where statutory bodies have an obligation.

The former Metropolitan Boroughs of Southwark and Bermondsey covering Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Walworth, North Southwark and Newington. We are only able to give within a specific area and will check address details on a map to check that any individual lives within our area of benefit.

The Surrey Dispensary Fund can give to both individuals and organisations within the area of benefit.

We can help people by providing or paying for items, services or facilities that we deem will relieve suffering or assist the recovery of such people.

We are not able to use the fund to pay rates, taxes or other public funds but we may use our income to supplement relief from other public funds. We will not normally cover costs that should be funded through statutory sources.

Grants to individuals vary in amount. Sometimes we will offer more help – this is normally where a known agency is making a referral. We will always require evidence of the expenditure.

We are not able to make any commitment to repeating our grants either to individuals or organisations.

Where we make a grant to an Organisation the recipient organisation will be required to demonstrate that it has used the funds for the agreed purpose.

The financial resources of Surrey Dispensary Fund are limited and the trustees seek to make the best use of their resources. The Trustees may require evidence of how any payment is used. Any grant is solely at the discretion of the Trustees who are responsible for ensuring the proper use of the Charitable Funds.

The Trustees meet four times a year. Grants may only be agreed at the meetings of Trustees.

Applications on behalf of individuals should be made on the Fund's application form.

As a small Trust we do not run an office and cannot be contacted by phone.

E-Mail us at for an application pack.  Return applications, preferably, by email or post may be sent to our Registered Office Address.  Applications are then forwarded to the Trustees prior to the meetings.
